Questions about BCBA Continuing Education

Q. BCBA CE credits for all events at a FABA conference are handled exactly the same way, right?

A. NO! Pre-Conference Workshop and general session continuing education credits are handled separately.

Pre-Conference Workshops (held the day before the conference, require additional fees) include the cost of CE credits and provide you with your official documentation of attendance (workshop certificate) immediately following the event. You are provided with a ticket that gains your entrance to the workshop. The ticket is collected when you enter and you are presented with the certificate at the end of the workshop. Make sure you get this certificate on-site. If you mail us a workshop ticket after the conference, we can only assume you did not actually attend the workshop. The certificate is yours to keep until you are ready to renew your certification. Once you have your certificate do not send it back to FABA! We will only mail it right back to you and you risk losing it in the mail.

General Conference Sessions (the rest of the Thu/Fri sessions) do not have their CE fees included in the conference registration costs. You may pay for them in person at the conference for $10 per credit or for 30 days after the conference at the same price of $10 per credit. Please note that BACB requires all CE certificates are distributed soon after the event, so we cannot accept CE payments after that time. When you attend approved sessions, you must stop to get a barcode in your booklet at the beginning and end of the session. At the end of the conference, your packet must be turned back in along with an evaluation for each CE event you attended and payment. You will automatically be e-mailed a receipt to the e-mail address we have on file. This receipt will serve as your certificate of attendance.

Q. Why are those darned session hosts such sticklers about people who come late/leave early?

A. All guidelines pertaining to Behavior Analyst continuing education state that for every 50 minutes a certified person spends in an approved event, he/she may receive 1 CE credit. 50 minutes = 1 credit. The session hosts are doing exactly what's been requested of them when they refuse to give barcodes to latecomers/early leavers. Even if you're five minutes late, asking one of these folks to give you a CE barcode is asking them to break established guidelines. Please do not put our kind volunteers in such a predicament! If you disagree with the guidelines, please contact your certifying organization and discuss it with them.

Q. I never turned in my materials! May I still do so?

A. Yes! Send in the completed CE instructions/cover sheet, your barcodes, and payment the same as if you'd turned it in at the conference (all items loose in the envelope - no staples please!). If you've lost the cover sheet, a full size sheet of paper with your name, address, phone number and email will do just as well.

All previously earned, unpaid CEUs MUST be postmarked and sent with payment to the FABA office within 30 days of the conference.

Remember, FABA cannot accept signature-required mail, so send through regular post. All signature-required mail will be returned to sender.

Q. How long can I wait before turning in my barcodes?

A. All previously earned, unpaid CEUs MUST be postmarked and sent with payment to the FABA office within 30 days of the last day of the conference.

Waiting until shortly before a certification renewal deadline is strongly discouraged!

Keep in mind that holding on to your materials will not allow you to obtain a more recently dated CE letter. Each letter is dated about one month after the conference occurred and this will be the date on your letter for credits obtained at that conference, regardless of when you send them to us.

Q. Help! I turned in my coupons but lost my letter!

A. In most cases, we can produce another letter for you. Contact FABA and provide your name and conference date. As long as we have your records on file, we should be able to create another letter.

Please note that both the Florida Certification program and the BBCBA are aware that we do this. Your new letter or receipt will bear the same dates as the old letter and/or receipt.

Q. Help! I lost my CE booklet!

A. This is your only record of your attendance at general conference sessions. If you lose your CE booklet before submitting it with payment to FABA, there is no way to prove your attendance at those sessions.

Q. I have a question about BCBA CE credits from an event that was not at a FABA conference.

A. You must contact the organization that sponsored the event. If FABA did not sponsor and run the event, we cannot answer your question or do anything for you regarding these CE credits.

Questions about ABA membership verification

Q. How will my membership be verified with ABA?

A. FABA supplies ABA with a list of current members as of January 1. ABA refers to that list for verification of their membership status. Please do not contact the FABA Office when ABA asks for verification, instead tell them to refer to the list. Those who join or renew after January 1 should submit their FABA membership reciept directly to ABA.
